Springfield, IL – Light snow flurries are possible across central Illinois today into tonight, with little to no accumulation expected along Interstate 55 and surrounding roadways.
According to the US National Weather Service in Central Illinois, cooler temperatures will persist through early next week as weak systems move through the region. While snow showers or flurries may develop at times, forecasters say accumulations are expected to remain minimal.
High temperatures today are forecast between 30 and 40 degrees, followed by breezy and cooler conditions Sunday with highs in the mid-20s to lower 30s. Overnight lows will fall into the teens and lower 20s, increasing the chance for isolated slick spots where flurries briefly coat surfaces.
Drivers along I-55 near Springfield, I-74 near Peoria, and I-57 through Champaign should remain alert for minor slick stretches on untreated roads, particularly late tonight and early Sunday morning.
No significant winter storm impacts are anticipated, but brief visibility reductions may occur in isolated flurries.
By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rebound into the 40 to 50 degree range, climbing back above normal by midweek. The warming trend should help limit any lingering icy patches on area roads.
While this pattern brings cooler-than-average conditions for late February, no widespread accumulation or major travel disruptions are currently forecast.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for any changes in precipitation chances or temperature trends.
