Champaign, IL – Troopers are investigating a crash that has shut down all westbound lanes of Interstate 74 just east of Interstate 57 in Champaign, according to Illinois State Police Troop 7. The closure is causing significant traffic delays across the area.
Authorities say I-74 westbound traffic is currently being diverted onto Exit 179, which connects to I-57 north and south. The ramps from I-57 southbound and northbound to I-74 westbound are also closed. Extended lane closures are expected while crews investigate and clear the crash scene.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and expect major travel disruptions through the late morning hours. Eastbound lanes of I-74 remain open but are experiencing slowdowns due to onlooker traffic.
Motorists traveling between Champaign and Mahomet should consider using U.S. Route 150 or local roads as detours.
