Champaign, IL – A 31-year-old man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a shooting on N. Third Street in Champaign, authorities said.
Champaign Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 3:03 p.m. and found a vehicle damaged by bullets with the injured victim inside. Officers administered emergency aid before transporting him to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
According to police, an initial investigation revealed that 22-year-old Zaire Herman of Champaign opened fire on the victim before fleeing on foot. Officers later apprehended Herman, who was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Authorities stated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
