Champaign, IL Shooting: Chicago Man Arrested in December Homicide of 21-Year-Old Woman

Champaign, IL – A Chicago man is in custody following a December 9 homicide in southwest Champaign that claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman.

Champaign police were called to the 2400 block of West Springfield Avenue around 7:50 p.m. for a reported shooting. Officers discovered Heaven Hope with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite medical aid, Hope was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the hospital.

According to police, Hope and an unidentified man were entering a business when 24-year-old Carl Tribble Jr. of Chicago allegedly opened fire. Hope was struck multiple times, but the man escaped unharmed. Tribble fled on foot, sparking a multi-state manhunt.

Tribble was arrested on December 11 in Farmington, Missouri, after a vehicle pursuit originating in southern Illinois. He remains in custody awaiting extradition to Champaign County, where he faces first-degree murder charges.
