Champaign, IL – Two Champaign teens were arrested March 19 in a Feb. 18 shooting that critically injured a 26-year-old man.
According to the Champaign Police Department, officers were dispatched at 10:53 p.m. after reports of gunfire on Stratford Drive. While en route, police received a call from an injured victim and redirected to the 1600 block of Sangamon Drive, where they found a 26-year-old man with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers, assisted by the Champaign Fire Department, provided emergency care before the victim was transported to a hospital. Police said the man continues to recover.
Investigators determined the victim was allegedly shot in the 900 block of Stratford Drive by a 17-year-old, then fled the area in a vehicle while calling for help. On March 19, officers executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Briar Lane, where the 17-year-old was arrested.
Initial charges for the teen include aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted murder. A second juvenile, a 16-year-old from Champaign, was also arrested at the scene for unlawful possession of ammunition. Two firearms were recovered and taken into evidence.
Because both suspects are juveniles, authorities said additional details are limited. Police emphasized the investigation remains ongoing and are seeking additional information from the public.
