Champaign, IL – A mix of snow and freezing rain is expected to impact central Illinois through early Thursday, creating hazardous road conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of central, east-central, and west-central Illinois, including Champaign, Urbana, Bloomington, and Springfield.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will mix with freezing rain Wednesday night before transitioning to lighter snowfall. Total accumulations of 2 to 3 inches are expected, with a light glaze of ice forming on roadways. Winds up to 24 mph could reduce visibility, making travel dangerous.
Thursday will bring decreasing clouds with highs near 22°F, but another system moves in Friday night, bringing a mix of snow and rain through Saturday. Drivers should use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, which may become slick.
