Champaign, IL – Residents are invited to gather Thursday morning for the City of Champaign’s annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony honoring the lives lost in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

According to the Champaign Fire Department, the ceremony will take place at 8:45 a.m. on September 11, 2025, at the Champaign Fire & Police Memorial located on the northeast corner of West Side Park, 400 W. University Ave.

The event will feature local first responders and community leaders who will pause to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed during the attacks, including firefighters, police officers, and other emergency personnel who gave their lives in service.

Organizers noted that in the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be relocated to Champaign Fire Station 1. The department emphasized its commitment to ensuring the community continues to honor and remember the tragedy more than two decades later.

The public is encouraged to attend and show support for those who serve in the Champaign community while reflecting on the lasting impact of the events of September 11.
