Champaign, IL – A 22-year-old man was shot Tuesday evening while in a parking lot near Stratford Drive and Trafalgar Square, prompting an active investigation by Champaign Police.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of W. Kirby Avenue at 7:14 p.m. on March 26, 2025, following reports of gunfire. While no injured individuals were initially found at the scene, evidence of a shooting was quickly located. Just 14 minutes later, the victim contacted dispatch to report he had been struck by gunfire. Emergency personnel responded to his location and transported him to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. He was later released.

Investigators believe shots were fired from a vehicle in the parking lot, striking the victim. While the motive remains unknown, police do not believe the incident was random. Officers are seeking witnesses and video footage from nearby surveillance cameras that may aid the investigation.
