Urbana, IL – A 60-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a reported home invasion in the 1800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to Urbana Police.

Police said the incident occurred on September 30, 2025, at approximately 2:10 p.m. when the suspect, identified as Michael A. Willis, allegedly entered a residence by falsely claiming to be a maintenance worker. Once inside, Willis allegedly used physical force in an attempt to steal money. Authorities said the victim was able to push Willis away and escape to call police.

According to the Urbana Police Department, officers began searching the area immediately. Just over an hour after the report, they located Willis nearby in the same block and took him into custody without incident.

Police credited the quick resolution to the cooperation and awareness of community members. “This is a good reminder for residents to use caution when allowing unknown individuals into their homes,” officials stated. Residents are advised to verify a person’s identity through official sources before granting access.

The department emphasized that Willis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. No further details have been released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
