Urbana, IL – A 21-year-old woman is in serious condition after being shot Tuesday afternoon in Urbana, prompting a brief lockdown at two nearby schools, according to the Urbana Police Department.

Police said the shooting occurred around 1:55 p.m. in the 900 block of South Vine Street. Officers found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound and transported her to a local hospital.

According to authorities, the suspect — identified as the victim’s boyfriend, 21-year-old Noah Allen of Urbana — was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He faces preliminary charges including Aggravated Domestic Battery, Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.

Due to the proximity of the shooting, Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School were temporarily placed on lockdown until officers confirmed the area was safe. Police emphasized that the case appears to be domestic-related and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
