Urbana, IL – University of Illinois Police detectives arrested an Urbana man Wednesday after a two-month investigation into alleged possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
According to the University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD), detectives assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Haocheng “Charlie” Wang, 23, of Urbana, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, following a search warrant at his residence.
UIPD said the investigation began December 1, 2025, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children issued a CyberTip alerting police to a Discord user allegedly in possession of CSAM. Working with the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force, investigators gathered digital evidence before executing the warrant and taking Wang into custody.
Wang was arraigned Thursday afternoon and later released pending trial. Police said no additional information about the case will be released due to the sensitive nature of the materials involved.
Authorities remind the public that anyone with information about child exploitation or trafficking can file a report through the CyberTipline at missingkids.org or by calling 911 if a child is believed to be in immediate danger.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
