Champaign-Urbana, IL – Several area law enforcement agencies are joining forces this November to tackle food insecurity across east-central Illinois through a friendly “Protect and Feed” competition.

According to the University of Illinois Police Department, the fundraiser—organized with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank—runs now through Thursday, November 21. Community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to help feed local families during the holiday season.

Donation bins are available at two key drop-off locations: the Public Safety Building at 1110 W. Springfield Ave. in Urbana, and the Community Outreach & Support Team Office at 505 E. Green St. in Champaign.

Departments participating include the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign Police Department, Urbana Police Department, Parkland College Police, Rantoul Police, and University of Illinois Police. The agencies are competing to see which can raise the most meals before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Foodbank notes that more than 143,000 residents in east-central Illinois face food insecurity at any given time. All donations will stay within the community to support local families.
