Champaign, IL – Light to moderate lake effect snow could cause slippery travel conditions across Central Illinois tonight into early Monday morning, with localized accumulations and reduced visibility possible for commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, there’s a 30–50% chance of at least minor travel impacts across Champaign and Vermilion Counties as snow bands move through overnight. A narrow corridor has a 20–40% chance of 2 inches or more, particularly near Danville and surrounding areas.
Forecasters say the most persistent snow is expected between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, with lingering flurries possible into early Monday afternoon. While totals will vary, brief heavier bursts could lead to slick spots and reduced visibility, especially on untreated roads and bridges.
The NWS advises residents to leave extra time for the Monday morning commute, drive cautiously, and watch for changing conditions on rural and secondary roads.
