Sioux City, IA – A Mason City man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a multi-year methamphetamine distribution conspiracy that operated in northern Iowa.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, Charles Robinson, 44, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Sioux City after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Federal prosecutors said the investigation found Robinson was involved in an ongoing methamphetamine trafficking operation based in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, between May 2023 and September 2024. Law enforcement documented Robinson actively participating in the distribution of methamphetamine during that period.

Robinson entered his guilty plea on September 2, 2025, according to court records.

U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand imposed a 120-month federal prison sentence, followed by five years of supervised release once Robinson completes his prison term. There is no parole in the federal prison system.

Court officials noted Robinson has an extensive criminal history, including prior assault and domestic abuse-related convictions, which were considered during sentencing.

Following Tuesday’s hearing, Robinson was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and will remain detained until he is transported to a federal correctional facility.

The case was investigated by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ron Timmons.

Additional court documents related to the case are available through the federal courts system under case number 25-3032.
