Clinton County, IL – The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office says a new tip may have identified the person found dead Oct. 10, 2025, outside Centralia in unincorporated Clinton County.

According to Sheriff Dan Travous, DNA from the remains is being compared to a known profile to confirm the possible identity. The update follows a public appeal for information issued Tuesday.

Travous thanked residents who called or emailed tips to help investigators. “Although we have a possible identity of the deceased, there may still be information helpful to the investigation,” he said, encouraging the public to share any additional details.

At this time, investigators do not know the cause of death. Travous stated there is no evidence of foul play, but the case is being treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.

The remains are undergoing further testing to help the coroner determine how the individual died. Once a positive identification and cause of death are established, the sheriff’s office plans to release another update.
