Riverton, Wyo. – Extreme heat grips central Wyoming Wednesday as Riverton is expected to reach 100 degrees, pushing the area into one of its hottest days of the summer. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours as temperatures soar.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, winds will remain light Wednesday, shifting from west to east as the evening cools into the lower 60s. The dry stretch ends Thursday night, when a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops, expanding into Friday and the weekend with more widespread storm chances.

The heat breaks slightly by Friday, with highs in the mid-80s. Storms could bring gusts up to 22 mph, especially across Fremont County and along U.S. Highway 26. Drivers should remain alert for reduced visibility and wet roads during passing storms. Outdoor plans for camping and hiking in the Wind River Range may also be disrupted by lightning and sudden downpours.

Saturday looks drier and sunnier with highs near 85, but unsettled weather returns Sunday through Tuesday, keeping daily thunderstorm chances alive into early next week.

More updates are expected later this week as the heat transitions to a more storm-prone pattern.
