RIVERTON, Wyo. – Dawn breaks crisp and calm over the Wind River Valley, a thin layer of frost shimmering across ranch fences and fields. The midweek sun will dominate skies again today, but it won’t last — a breezy pattern is setting up that could bring the first scattered showers, and even a light rain-snow mix, before the weekend closes.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, Wyoming residents can expect clear, mild weather through Friday, with daytime highs climbing into the low to mid-60s. Winds stay light for now but will increase by Saturday, gusting up to 25 mph in open areas and along U.S. 26 and I-25. The pleasant stretch turns unsettled late Saturday night as a weak front slides across central Wyoming, bringing a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain showers through Sunday.

Sunday will feel noticeably cooler, with highs near 59 and brisk southwest winds. A few light snow showers could mix in across higher terrain near the Wind River and Owl Creek Mountains, marking one of the first hints of winter to come. By Monday, colder air filters east, with morning lows dropping into the 20s and highs only reaching the low 50s.

Drivers and hunters heading into the weekend should prepare for changing conditions — dry and dusty trails early, damp and slick by Sunday. After all, it’s the season’s quiet pivot point in Wyoming: clear skies giving way to that unmistakable chill of early winter.
