Riverton, WY – Much of central Wyoming remains under a Red Flag Warning until 8 p.m. Friday as gusty winds and single-digit humidity create dangerous fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service warns that any spark could spread rapidly, threatening rural areas and foothill communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, the warning covers Fremont and Natrona counties, including Casper, the Upper Wind River Basin, and surrounding rangeland. Winds from the northwest will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph in open areas. Humidity levels could fall as low as 11 percent, increasing the risk for erratic fire behavior.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and delay any activity that could create sparks. Fire crews across the region remain on high alert, especially in areas with cured grasses and dry timber.

While winds may ease slightly overnight, dry conditions will persist through the weekend. Elevated fire danger is expected to return to southern Wyoming on Saturday, keeping crews busy and residents on guard.
