CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Much of central and southern Wyoming is under a Freeze Warning through 9 a.m. Tuesday, as overnight lows are expected to dip as low as 25°F, threatening crops and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the warning covers Converse County lower elevations, Ferris/Seminoe/Shirley Mountains, North Snowy Range Foothills, and southwest Carbon County. The agency said sub-freezing temperatures will settle in shortly after midnight and persist into early Tuesday morning.
Residents and farmers are urged to protect tender vegetation, cover outdoor faucets, and bring pets indoors. Sensitive plants and unprotected irrigation lines could suffer significant damage. The NWS noted that the freeze will likely mark the end of the growing season for several areas in central Wyoming.
Drivers in higher terrain and open valleys should also watch for frost accumulation on bridges and rural roads before sunrise Tuesday.
Conditions are expected to moderate slightly by midweek, but additional frosty mornings remain possible in low-lying areas. Freeze Warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
