CASPER, Wyo. – After a cold start to the week, another round of freezing temperatures is on the way for much of central and northern Wyoming. The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Freeze Watch from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday for areas including Casper, Riverton, Lander, Cody, and Rock Springs.
Subfreezing lows between 28°F and 32°F are expected, with the coldest air pooling in basins and sheltered valleys such as the Bighorn and Wind River regions. According to the NWS, the freeze could kill sensitive vegetation, end the growing season for many communities, and cause damage to unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to drain garden hoses, cover outdoor faucets, and bring in potted plants before temperatures plummet Monday night. Pet owners should ensure outdoor animals have warm shelter, particularly in open areas near Cody and Meeteetse where readings could dip into the mid-20s.
Clear skies and light winds will keep conditions cold again Tuesday night before a gradual midweek warm-up returns to the state.
