Elkins, WV – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday for portions of central and eastern West Virginia, with snow and gusty winds continuing overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.

Forecasters report that an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow are expected before daybreak across counties including Randolph, Pocahontas, Webster, Nicholas, and Upshur. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility, particularly on ridge tops and higher elevations.

The NWS warns that untreated roads could become slick and snow-covered, making for hazardous travel conditions during the early Tuesday morning commute. Motorists are urged to use extra caution, especially along mountainous routes such as U.S. 219 and Route 55.

Snow showers are expected to gradually taper off by mid-morning, with winds easing through the day. However, cold temperatures will keep some roads icy through late morning hours.

Residents are advised to keep an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight in their vehicles in case of delays.
