Neillsville, WI – A winter storm watch remains in effect for parts of central Wisconsin, with freezing rain and ice accumulations expected to disrupt travel and daily life from Saturday evening through Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, rain may transition to freezing rain beginning Saturday evening in Clark and Taylor Counties, including the cities of Neillsville and Medford. Ice accumulations could range from a light glaze to over a quarter of an inch. Forecasters also anticipate minor snow accumulation, up to one inch, during the day Sunday.

The combination of ice and snow poses risks for power outages, tree damage, and hazardous road conditions. Officials warn residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the alert period and prepare for potential utility disruptions.

Drivers are urged to carry winter storm kits, including booster cables, a flashlight, blankets, and extra clothing. Tire chains and shovels are also recommended in case of vehicle immobilization.

The winter storm watch is set to expire Sunday evening, but forecasters advise monitoring updates as timing and totals could change. This weather system aligns with early spring patterns in the region, where fluctuating temperatures often trigger mixed precipitation events.
