Green Bay, Wis. – Strong to severe storms could sweep across much of central and northeast Wisconsin Wednesday afternoon, with damaging wind gusts and hail posing the main threats between 1 and 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, daytime heating and increased moisture will support scattered thunderstorms starting early Wednesday afternoon, with some storms capable of producing winds up to 60 mph, lightning, and quarter-sized hail. Areas from Wausau to Appleton and into Door County fall within the zone of concern.
Drivers along I-41 and Highway 29 should be alert for sudden downpours and low visibility. Outdoor plans in places like Green Bay and Manitowoc may need to be adjusted, especially mid-to-late afternoon. Emergency managers urge residents to secure outdoor furniture and charge mobile devices in case of brief power outages.
This is not a widespread severe outbreak, but isolated stronger storms could impact travel and outdoor safety. Wednesday’s storms follow a stretch of calm weather and could mark the most active system this week.
Storms are expected to taper off by sunset, but additional updates or advisories may be issued Wednesday morning as conditions evolve.
