Burlington, VT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Burlington has extended a Wind Advisory for portions of central and western Vermont through 5 a.m. EDT Friday, warning of east winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
The advisory affects several counties, including Lamoille, Addison, Franklin, Chittenden, and Rutland, with the strongest gusts expected between 5 p.m. and midnight Thursday. Earlier Thursday afternoon, Bennington recorded a 51-mph gust, underscoring the storm’s intensity.
According to the NWS, gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects and Halloween decorations, while tree limbs could be blown down, potentially leading to isolated or scattered power outages.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use extra caution, particularly along east–west routes and elevated terrain where crosswinds will be strongest.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken early Friday morning as the weather system moves eastward, bringing cooler and calmer conditions to start the weekend.
