BECKLEY, W.Va. – A chilly fall night is ahead for central West Virginia, where clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop into the low to mid-30s overnight tonight, from 2AM until 9AM Friday, leading to widespread frost across mountain valleys and rural communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Frost Advisory remains in effect for Upshur, Barbour, Nicholas, Fayette, Raleigh, and Webster counties, including the cities of Beckley, Buckhannon, Summersville, Craigsville, and Webster Springs. Forecasters expect frost formation by dawn Friday, especially in sheltered hollows and open fields.

Officials warn that frost could harm or kill sensitive vegetation if left uncovered. Residents should bring in or cover plants, drain garden hoses, and avoid watering overnight to prevent damage. Farmers and gardeners across the region should prepare for a likely end to the growing season in some areas.

Light winds and dry air will enhance cooling tonight, with frost most likely on grassy surfaces and vehicle windshields. Early commuters may need a few extra minutes for scraping frost before sunrise.

According to meteorologists, temperatures will rebound quickly after sunrise Friday with a sunny, mild afternoon, followed by a gradual weekend warm-up. Another cold front early next week could bring a second frost threat to higher elevations.
