Kittitas Valley, Wash. – Drivers and residents in the Kittitas Valley are being urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for difficult travel as strong northwest winds continue through Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service in Pendleton issued a Wind Advisory warning of gusts up to 50 mph across the area.

According to the NWS, sustained winds between 30 and 35 mph are expected until around 5 p.m. PDT Friday. The advisory covers communities including Ellensburg and nearby rural areas. Gusty conditions could send debris airborne, topple small trees, and cause isolated power outages.

Travelers on Interstate 90 through the valley should expect reduced visibility from blowing dust and challenging crosswinds, especially for high-profile vehicles such as semis and RVs. Drivers are advised to use extra caution and keep both hands firmly on the wheel.

The weather service notes that while winds are expected to ease after sunset, occasional gusts may persist into the evening hours before calmer conditions return Saturday.

Warnings remain in effect through 5 p.m. PDT Friday.
