Ellensburg, WA – A sharp cold front is bringing winter-like chill to Central Washington as a Freeze Watch takes effect Monday night through Tuesday morning for Kittitas County, where lows could tumble to 27°F, the National Weather Service in Pendleton said. The cold snap could damage late-season crops, garden plants, and unprotected outdoor pipes.
According to the National Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions are expected to peak between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday, with the highest risk in valleys and rural areas near Ellensburg, Cle Elum, and Thorp. Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and disconnect garden hoses ahead of the freeze.
Temperatures will moderate slightly by midweek, but overnight lows are still expected to hover in the mid-30s across the Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin. The agency advises continued caution for growers and homeowners as more frost advisories could follow later in the week.
