Richmond, VA – Strong winds are sweeping through Central Virginia today, with gusts expected to reach 50 mph. A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 7 p.m., warning of potential travel disruptions and minor property damage.

Sustained winds of 15-25 mph, paired with stronger gusts, may result in downed tree limbs, unsecured objects becoming projectiles, and isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles are advised to exercise caution, especially on major roadways like I-95 and I-64, where visibility and vehicle stability may be impacted.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items such as trash cans, patio furniture, and holiday decorations. The advisory also urges drivers to remain vigilant on bridges and overpasses, where wind effects are often intensified.

Looking ahead, conditions will improve by Thursday, bringing sunny skies and calmer winds, with highs around 45°F. However, the reprieve will be short-lived, as a chance of snow and rain showers moves in Friday afternoon. A light dusting of snow is possible over the weekend as temperatures drop significantly.
