Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory for parts of central and south-central Virginia, in effect until 4 a.m. Monday. Forecasters warn of visibility dropping to one-quarter mile or less, along with slick conditions on untreated roads and bridges.
According to the NWS, the advisory includes Fluvanna, Prince Edward, Cumberland, Goochland, Caroline, Nottoway, Amelia, Powhatan, Louisa, and Hanover Counties. Temperatures below freezing are causing fog to freeze on contact, creating dangerously slick travel conditions overnight.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe following distance. Even short trips could be hazardous, particularly in rural and low-lying areas where fog is thickest.
The freezing fog is expected to dissipate by early Monday morning, but residual icy patches may linger into the morning commute. Motorists should use caution on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads, where temperatures are likely to remain below freezing.
