Washington, DC – Rain sweeping north from central Virginia is expected to reach the Washington metro area by midday Wednesday, bringing scattered showers and cloud cover that could impact commutes and outdoor plans through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the heaviest rain will fall south and west of the region, but spotty showers could persist into Thursday before tapering off. Some afternoon clearing is likely Wednesday, though low clouds are forecast to return late tonight.
Highs today will range from the upper 70s to mid-80s across the region, with lows settling in the 60s. On Thursday, decreased cloud cover is expected, but another round of scattered showers—again focused in southern and western zones—could dampen late-day travel.
By Friday, skies will turn mostly sunny, with highs climbing into the low 80s. A slight chance of afternoon storms remains, mainly in higher terrain areas west of DC, including the Shenandoah Valley and parts of western Maryland.
