Richmond, VA – Scattered strong storms are expected to sweep across Virginia this evening, bringing damaging wind gusts, urban flooding, and the chance of small hail to cities from Roanoke to Virginia Beach.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, most of the state is under a Marginal Risk for severe weather through 9 p.m. Saturday. The main hazards include 45–60 mph wind gusts and heavy rainfall, with the greatest flooding risk lingering into early Sunday morning. Storms will move west to east at 10–15 mph, most active between 4–9 p.m.
Communities along I-64, including Charlottesville, Richmond, and Williamsburg, may experience brief power outages and travel delays. In Hampton Roads and Tidewater, waterlogged roads could pose a hazard into the overnight hours.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets, secure outdoor items, and monitor alerts from local emergency management. While tornadoes are not expected, isolated severe cells could produce brief, damaging bursts of wind.
Storm intensity should taper off after sunset, but localized flooding will remain a concern into Sunday’s early morning hours.
