Roanoke, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Freeze Warning in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as temperatures are expected to fall to near 30 degrees across parts of central and southwestern Virginia.

The warning includes the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt, Bedford, Amherst, Campbell, Appomattox, and Buckingham, impacting communities such as Roanoke, Salem, Lynchburg, Bedford, and Appomattox.

According to the NWS, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing may freeze if not properly insulated. Residents are urged to bring in potted plants, cover garden crops, and wrap exposed pipes before midnight Friday.

This will likely be the first widespread freeze of the season for the Roanoke–Lynchburg area, marking the end of the growing season for many locations. Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly later this weekend, but Saturday morning’s chill could bring significant frost to low-lying areas.
