Rutland, Vermont – Snowfall across central and southern Vermont is creating slippery travel conditions Saturday, with several inches expected before the weather begins to settle later this evening. Roads across Rutland and Windsor counties are becoming snow-covered, especially in higher terrain and along secondary routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday for all of Rutland and Windsor counties. Snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches are expected, with the highest totals likely in elevated areas near Killington, Ludlow, and the western slopes of the Green Mountains.
Communities including Rutland, Fair Haven, East Wallingford, Bethel, White River Junction, Springfield, and Ludlow are seeing steady snowfall at times, leading to slick road surfaces and reduced traction. Mountain passes, shaded roadways, and untreated side roads are especially hazardous, particularly as snowfall rates briefly increase.
Vermont Agency of Transportation crews continue treatment efforts, but officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Travelers heading toward ski areas or crossing mountain routes should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
Snow is expected to taper later Saturday evening as the advisory expires. While conditions should gradually improve overnight, slick spots may linger into the evening hours. Additional advisories remain possible if snow persists longer than expected.
