FRESNO, Calif. – Central California will bake under triple-digit temperatures through Labor Day as a ridge of high pressure keeps the San Joaquin Valley hot and dry. The National Weather Service reports a 90 percent chance of temperatures topping 100 degrees in Fresno, Hanford, and Visalia on both Sunday and Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, Bakersfield has a 95 percent likelihood of exceeding 100°F on Labor Day, while Coalinga, Madera, and Merced also hold strong odds of dangerous heat through early in the week. Conditions will gradually ease beginning Wednesday, with only a slight chance of triple-digit highs by Friday.

The prolonged stretch of extreme heat raises health concerns for older adults, outdoor workers, and those without reliable air conditioning. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid outdoor activities during the afternoon. For households without cooling systems, using fans and keeping windows open at night can help reduce risk.

Heat advisories may be extended if conditions persist beyond Tuesday, and officials stress that heat-related illnesses can develop quickly.
