Marquette, MI – Dangerous heat and scattered strong storms will make outdoor plans risky for much of Marquette and the central Upper Peninsula through Saturday night, as humidity and temperatures combine for heat indices approaching 100 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, most of the central and western U.P. will see highs in the upper 80s and low 90s today and Saturday, with the heat index topping the century mark in some communities. A line of thunderstorms, some capable of producing damaging winds or hail, is expected to push through west-central Upper Michigan overnight and into early Saturday, with the greatest threat after midnight.

Cities including Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Gwinn could see downed limbs and brief power outages if storms intensify. Isolated storms may also pop up this afternoon, but the main risk for severe weather and localized flooding arrives overnight. Residents should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, limit strenuous activities outdoors, and drink extra water.

With a 40% chance of showers and storms continuing through Saturday night, power disruptions and slick roads are possible. The threat for dangerous heat and scattered thunderstorms continues into Sunday before temperatures moderate by early next week. Updates will follow if additional weather advisories or alerts are issued.
