Memphis, TN – The National Weather Service has issued widespread Wind Advisories spanning much of the Midwest and South, warning of strong northwest winds and gusts up to 50 mph from Tuesday night through Wednesday. The system will affect millions from South Dakota and Nebraska through Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
The developing cold front will surge southward overnight, pushing high winds through the central corridor of the U.S. and into the Gulf states by Wednesday morning.
- Midwest: Advisories cover Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri, where gusts could reach 45–50 mph overnight Tuesday through Wednesday morning.
- South-Central U.S.: Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas will see similar gusts of 35–50 mph, peaking Wednesday morning.
- Lower Mississippi Valley: From Memphis to northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas, winds of 25–35 mph with higher gusts may persist from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to NWS Memphis.
- Gulf Coast: The New Orleans and Corpus Christi regions are under advisories beginning early Wednesday, with gusts up to 40 mph and choppy marine conditions along the coast.
The NWS warns of blowing debris, downed limbs, and isolated power outages across the region. High-profile vehicles on interstates—including I-35, I-40, I-55, and I-70—may experience difficult travel.
In parts of Texas and New Mexico, Freeze Watches are also in effect, with temperatures expected to dip into the 20s and low 30s by Wednesday morning following the frontal passage.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel in high-profile vehicles, and prepare for potential brief power interruptions.
