St. Louis, Mo. – Triple-digit heat will grip much of the Central U.S. through Tuesday, bringing dangerous conditions for millions across Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois and surrounding states. Daytime highs are expected to climb into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees, while warm overnight lows in the upper 70s will provide little chance for recovery.

According to the National Weather Service, the combination of high heat indices and minimal overnight cooling significantly raises the risk for heat-related illnesses. A large swath from Kansas City to Nashville is under a major heat risk designation, with the most severe conditions centered over St. Louis, Little Rock, and Memphis.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, and stay in air conditioning whenever possible. Vulnerable groups, including children, older adults, and those without adequate cooling, face the highest danger. Drivers are also warned never to leave children or pets inside vehicles, even for a short period.

The extreme heat will continue to stress local power grids and could increase the risk of emergency medical calls in urban areas. Conditions are expected to gradually improve midweek, but heat advisories remain in effect until at least Tuesday evening.
