WACO, Texas – Central and East Texas remain under a Flood Watch through Sunday evening as multiple rounds of heavy rainfall bring a risk of flash flooding and dangerous travel conditions. Some communities could see isolated rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches, especially along poor drainage areas and low-water crossings.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the most persistent rainfall is expected from Sunday morning through late evening, with storms continuing into Labor Day. Along with flooding, hazards include gusty winds, frequent lightning, and the potential for small hail.

Cities including Waco, Killeen, Centerville, and Palestine are in the watch area. Roadway flooding is most likely in rural stretches where drainage is limited, and residents are urged to avoid driving through barricades or flooded crossings.

Storm chances remain high Sunday night into Monday, particularly in Central Texas, with 40% to 70% coverage in areas south of the DFW Metroplex. Holiday travelers should prepare for slowdowns on major routes, including I-35 between Austin and Dallas, where downpours may create ponding and reduced visibility.

The flood watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday, but additional advisories may be issued if storms persist through Labor Day.
