San Angelo, Texas – Dangerous heat is set to grip central and west-central Texas through the middle of next week, with highs nearing or hitting 100°F in cities like Sweetwater, Abilene, and San Angelo by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, temperatures will steadily rise through the weekend under dry skies, with heat index values climbing due to elevated afternoon humidity. Excessive heat risks are expected from Friday through at least Wednesday, particularly during peak afternoon hours.

Abilene will see daytime highs surge from 97°F Thursday to 99°F by Tuesday, with overnight lows staying in the mid-70s. Sweetwater is forecast to hit 100°F by Sunday and hold that mark through midweek. Ballinger, Brownwood, and Coleman are also expected to see highs in the upper 90s with muggy conditions persisting overnight.

Residents are urged to follow heat safety guidelines: avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Heat exhaustion can develop quickly, especially when humidity is high and overnight temperatures stay warm.

This stretch of excessive heat may extend beyond July 24. Further advisories are likely if dry conditions and high humidity persist.
