San Angelo, TX – Severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes are developing across West Central and Hill Country regions Tuesday afternoon, putting more than 30 Texas counties under a Tornado Watch until 10 p.m. Drivers along major corridors including U.S. Highway 87, Interstate 20 near Abilene, and U.S. 277 around San Angelo could encounter sudden downpours, damaging wind gusts, and rapidly forming rotating storms through the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, the watch covers a broad stretch of Texas including Taylor, Tom Green, Kerr, Uvalde, Llano, Val Verde, and Brown counties. Conditions across the region support supercell thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph as storms move east and northeast through Tuesday evening.

Communities including Abilene, San Angelo, Kerrville, Mason, and Coleman sit directly in the zone where storms may intensify late Tuesday afternoon. Rural highways across the Hill Country and Concho Valley could see reduced visibility and sudden wind shifts if severe storms pass overhead.

Residents are urged to keep mobile alerts enabled and have a safe shelter location ready. Emergency managers recommend moving indoors immediately if a warning is issued and avoiding travel during active storms when possible.

The Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday, and additional warnings could be issued as storms strengthen across central and western Texas tonight.
