Austin, TX – South-Central Texas will see a quiet start to the week before a sharp drop in temperatures midweek, according to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio office.

Forecasters say overnight lows will fall into the mid-50s to low 60s, with calm to light winds. Patchy morning fog is expected mainly east of the I-35 corridor and into the Coastal Plains early Monday, reducing visibility for commuters from San Antonio to La Grange.

Afternoon highs will warm into the 80s Monday and Tuesday, but a cold front arriving Tuesday will shift winds north and usher in a noticeable cooldown. Behind the front, temperatures are forecast to dip into the upper 30s and 40s by Thursday and Friday mornings, with daytime highs in the 60s to low 70s.

The NWS says the front will also bring windy and dry conditions Tuesday into Wednesday, increasing the risk for grass or brush fires, especially in the Hill Country and Edwards Plateau. Rain chances remain minimal through the week.

This front will bring the coolest air of the season so far, offering a crisp start to Halloween weekend after several days of unseasonably warm afternoons.

Motorists should allow extra time Monday morning for fog east of Austin and San Antonio, and prepare for cooler mornings later this week.
