Austin, Texas – Heavy rain is expected to dampen holiday weekend plans across Central and South-Central Texas, with isolated flooding concerns lasting through Monday morning. Meteorologists warn that repeated rounds of showers could lead to localized high-water issues, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, the greatest risk for flooding will develop Sunday into Monday as widespread rainfall continues. Areas along the I-35 corridor, including Austin, San Marcos, and San Antonio, could see multiple periods of heavy downpours, making travel hazardous at times.

Creeks, streams, and poor-drainage roadways in the Hill Country and surrounding counties are most vulnerable. Outdoor plans, including barbecues, sports events, and lake activities, may be disrupted by sudden storms. Officials advise Texans to have multiple ways of receiving alerts, avoid crossing flooded roadways, and remain cautious if traveling during periods of heavy rainfall.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to ease after Monday, though additional rainfall may linger into early next week. More advisories could be issued if flooding conditions worsen.
