Austin, TX – Central Texas residents are being urged to stay weather-aware as a significant flash-flood threat builds through Friday. The National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio warns that 2–4 inches of rain, with isolated pockets of 6–8 inches, is likely west of the I-35 corridor, including portions of the Hill Country and Rio Grande Plains.

According to meteorologists, the risk increases today as repeated rounds of rainfall track across the region. Areas including Rocksprings, Del Rio, Uvalde, Kerrville, San Marcos, and Austin may see rapid runoff, while lighter but still impactful totals of 0.5–1.5 inches are expected farther east toward La Grange and Cuero. Even smaller amounts could trigger localized flooding due to saturated ground.

Forecasters emphasize the danger of low-water crossings, a recurring hazard in Central Texas. Drivers are urged to follow the long-standing safety reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Travel conditions may worsen quickly, especially in poor drainage locations and rural roadways.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and be prepared for potential advisories or warnings.
