Amarillo, TX – A low-pressure system pushing across the southern U.S. could bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to central Texas and the southern Texas Panhandle through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, rain chances remain modest across the region, ranging from 15% to 25% along and south of Interstate 40. Locations north of I-40, including Amarillo, have lower chances of measurable precipitation, with probabilities below 15%. The system is expected to influence the region from Tuesday through Thursday evening, with peak moisture potential occurring on Wednesday and Thursday.

While severe weather cannot be ruled out entirely, forecasters say the likelihood of strong storms remains very low—under 5% across the entire Panhandle. Communities such as Dumas, Borger, and Pampa may experience brief showers, but widespread rainfall is unlikely.

The forecast highlights the sensitivity of the system’s track. If it dips too far south, areas like Amarillo may miss out on any meaningful precipitation altogether.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates and remain weather-aware, particularly during afternoon and evening hours midweek. No watches or warnings have been issued as of Monday afternoon. This event remains well below typical spring storm activity for the region.
