Austin–San Antonio, TX – A Freeze Warning is in effect tonight into Monday morning for parts of Central Texas, marking the first widespread freeze of the season for many communities.

According to the National Weather Service Austin–San Antonio, the warning covers DeWitt, Fayette, and Lavaca counties from midnight through 9 a.m. CST Monday. Temperatures are expected to fall into the 28 to 32 degree range, with the highest confidence for below-freezing readings across the northern portions of the counties.

Forecasters say this will be the coldest night of the season so far for the warned areas. Locations farther north in the Hill Country have already experienced freezes this winter, but this event expands the threat farther south.

Officials urge residents to take action now to prevent damage. The National Weather Service recommends protecting the “Four P’s”:

  • People: Dress warmly and check on neighbors
  • Pets: Bring animals indoors
  • Plants: Cover or bring sensitive plants inside
  • Pipes: Insulate outdoor and exposed pipes

Unprotected pipes, early-blooming plants, and outdoor plumbing are especially vulnerable during overnight freezes. Motorists may also encounter frost on bridges and elevated roadways early Monday morning.

Temperatures are expected to rebound later Monday after sunrise, but additional cold mornings are possible as Arctic air settles across the region.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and heed freeze warnings through the overnight hours.
