Chanhassen, MN – Strong winds are forecast to sweep across much of central and southern Minnesota on Tuesday, prompting a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen.
The advisory covers a large portion of the state—from Alexandria and Willmar to Mankato, St. Cloud, and the Twin Cities suburbs—and will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT Tuesday.
Forecasters expect northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph throughout the day. The NWS warns that these gusts could blow around unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and cause scattered power outages.
Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution on open highways where crosswinds may be strongest. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and garbage bins before the winds increase Tuesday morning.
The windy conditions are expected to ease gradually by early Tuesday evening as a cold front pushes eastward. Cooler temperatures are likely to follow midweek across the region.
