Kankakee, Ill. – A surge of unseasonable warmth is set to take hold across areas south of Chicago, giving spring break travel a boost with dry roads and temperatures running well above typical late-March levels.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this part of Illinois will see temperatures running 30 to 50 percent above normal from March 24 through March 30, while precipitation remains near normal but limited in overall impact. This pattern favors extended stretches of sunshine with only brief, isolated rain chances.

Across Kankakee, Joliet, Champaign, and into central Illinois, daytime highs are expected to reach the upper 50s to mid-60s, with some locations pushing toward the upper 60s. Major routes including I-57, I-55, and I-80 should remain mostly dry, supporting steady travel across the region.

Drivers should still watch for early morning fog in low-lying areas, but widespread hazards are not expected. The warmer pattern will also help keep road surfaces dry and clear through most of the period.

For baseball fans across Illinois, including Cubs and White Sox supporters, the season opener arrives with comfortable conditions, with lighter layers likely more than enough.

This warm pattern is expected to hold through late March, with only minor system changes possible heading into early April.
