State College, Pennsylvania – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of central Pennsylvania as accumulating snow and lingering icy conditions are expected to impact travel through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, the advisory runs from noon Wednesday through 10 a.m. EST Thursday, affecting Cambria, Northern Centre, Northern Clinton, Warren, McKean, Potter, Elk, Cameron, and Clearfield counties. Impacted communities include Johnstown, Philipsburg, Renovo, DuBois, Bradford, Warren, Clearfield, and surrounding areas.
Forecasters say snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches are expected across the advisory area. Snowfall is likely to become steady Wednesday afternoon and evening before tapering off late Wednesday night.
Although the main snowfall is expected to diminish overnight, the National Weather Service warns that patchy freezing drizzle and scattered snow showers may persist into Thursday morning. Some snow showers could be briefly heavy, creating locally reduced visibility and slick travel conditions.
Roadways are expected to become slippery, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes, with slower travel times likely.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, allow extra time to reach destinations, and be alert for changing road conditions. Pedestrians should also be cautious, as sidewalks and steps may become slick.
Up-to-date road conditions across Pennsylvania are available by calling 511. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring weather updates as conditions evolve.
