Harrisburg, PA – Roads across central Pennsylvania could turn snow-covered before daybreak Sunday, setting the stage for a difficult Monday morning commute with up to 10 inches of accumulation and wind gusts reaching 35 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Monday afternoon for Cumberland, Perry, Dauphin, Schuylkill, Lebanon, Adams, York and Lancaster counties. Farther west, Cambria and Somerset counties are under the watch through late Monday night. Snow totals between 5 and 10 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts if the storm track shifts farther west.
Major corridors including Interstate 81, Interstate 83, Route 30 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike could become snow-packed and slick by early Monday. In Harrisburg, Hershey, York and Lancaster, steady snowfall combined with gusty winds may reduce visibility and create blowing snow, especially in open areas. Johnstown and Somerset could see impacts extend into the Monday evening commute.
Drivers should prepare for slow travel, allow extra stopping distance and consider adjusting Monday plans. Charge devices and check vehicle emergency kits before heading out.
Forecast confidence will increase later today as the storm organizes. Additional advisories or warnings may replace the watch before snow peaks Monday.
