State College, PA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in State College has issued a Wind Advisory for much of central Pennsylvania, in effect from 8 a.m. to midnight EDT Friday, with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
Forecasters say west winds averaging 15 to 25 mph will strengthen through Friday morning, with the highest gusts likely during the afternoon and evening. The advisory covers a wide area including Harrisburg, Altoona, State College, Williamsport, and York, along with counties stretching from the northern mountains to the Susquehanna Valley.
The NWS warns that unsecured outdoor items may be blown around, and tree limbs could be knocked down, potentially leading to scattered power outages. Motorists—particularly those driving high-profile vehicles—should use extra caution, especially on open roads and elevated terrain.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish late Friday night into Saturday morning as the front moves eastward, bringing cooler, calmer weather for the weekend.
